Ruby Kam
Ruby Kam is executive vice president and chief financial officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, the largest private health plan in the state and one of the largest independent, not-for-profit Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in the country. Blue Cross’ mission is to show up for everyone like they’re the only one. Ruby is responsible for all actuarial, financial, investment, and underwriting activities related to the management of the company’s more than $8 billion in annual revenues and almost $4 billion in assets. She also oversees strategic investment, accounting and real estate management for the company.
Ruby brings 25 years of experience in financial management, revenue growth, and business innovation to Blue Cross. Before joining the company in 2023, she spent two decades at UnitedHealth Group in a variety of leadership positions, including as chief financial officer for the national accounts division. As vice president for affordability within the national accounts division, Ruby oversaw medical spend for the commercial book of business and delivered significant cost savings.
Before joining UnitedHealth Group, she worked at McKinsey & Co., and has held senior leadership roles at two start-ups: SpectrumAi, a health care technology company; and Kiswe, an interactive video streaming company. Earlier in her career she worked in private equity, leading acquisitions and conducting strategic financial analysis and due diligence on potential transactions.
Ruby has an economics degree from Columbia University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
